What are the Benefits of Using an Exercise Bike? Before deciding which exercise bike is right for you, it's important to explore the benefits and purposes first so that you know if it aligns with your overall training plan. An exercise bike is a great way to lose body fat while also strengthening your heart, lungs, and muscles. They place a lot less strain on your joints than some other types of cardio equipment, yet they still deliver an excellent cardiovascular workout. Read on to find out some of the exercise bike benefits in detail: Improves Your Cardio Fitness Cycling is a fantastic method to get your heart pumping. Cardiovascular or aerobics exercises, such as cycling, strengthen your heart, lungs, and muscles while also increasing blood flow and oxygen distribution throughout your body. As a result, these activities can benefit your overall health in a variety of ways including: Improved focus and memory Lower blood pressure Better sleep Better mood Lower stress levels More energy Great Way to Lose Some Extra Pounds An exercise bike workout can burn more than 600 calories an hour, depending on the intensity of your exercise and your body weight. If you're looking to lose a few pounds, cycling is an excellent way to achieve your goals. Combine your regular exercise bike workouts with a healthy diet, and you'll be on your way to reaching your target weight in no time at all. Low Impact Workouts Joint pain can be a common issue for many people, especially those who are relatively inactive. Cycling is a low-impact exercise that places minimal strain on your joints, making it an ideal choice for those with joint problems or other health conditions. In fact, research has shown that exercise bike training can even be beneficial to those with arthritis, as it helps to maintain and improve joint mobility. Suitable for All Fitness Levels Whether you're just starting out on your fitness journey or you're a seasoned athlete, an exercise bike is the perfect piece of equipment for you. They come in a variety of types and intensities, so you can find one that matches your current fitness level and gradually increase the intensity as you get fitter. This makes them an excellent choice for those who want to start their journey to better health without overwhelming themselves with a strenuous exercise routine. Strengthen Your Leg Muscles Cycling is a great way to tone and strengthen your leg muscles. As you cycle, you use all the major muscle groups in your legs, including your quadriceps, hamstrings, and calf muscles. This can help to improve your overall strength, and has great transferable benefits that can aid in your other fitness activities. What Types of Exercise Bike are Available? Now that we've gone over some of the many benefits that exercise bike training can offer, we'll explore the main different types of exercise bike. There are three main types of exercise bike: upright, recumbent, and spin/studio bikes. Let's take a look at each one in more detail: Upright Exercise Bikes An upright exercise bike is the most common type on the market. They resemble a traditional bicycle, with a small saddle and two pedals. Upright bikes are a great choice for those who are looking for a cardio workout, as they provide an excellent aerobic exercise. They also come in a variety of intensities, so you can find one that matches your current fitness level. Recumbent Exercise Bikes A recumbent bike is designed with comfort in mind. It features a large saddle and backrest, making it perfect for those who want a more relaxed cycling experience. Recumbent bikes are great for those who want to focus on their lower body muscles, as they place more emphasis on the quadriceps and hamstring muscles than upright bikes do. They're also ideal for people with joint pain, as they put less strain on the joints than other types of exercise bikes. Rather than being directly underneath the user, the pedals are placed out in front, making recumbent bikes more suited to individuals with reduced mobility or who have lower back issues because of this body position. Recumbent bikes are excellent for building leg strength since the back and upper body are supported, so the legs have to work harder without the aid of trunk and upper body movement. Because there are less muscle groups to operate, recumbent bikes are perfect for individuals with injuries. Spin/Studio Bikes Spin bikes are a type of upright bike that are popular in fitness studios. They feature a heavier flywheel, which gives the bike a more realistic cycling experience - making them perfect for those who want to mimic the feeling of riding a real bike. Spin bikes come in both upright and recumbent varieties, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs. Exercise Bike Considerations Exercise bikes vary from brand to brand and model to model, so it's important to know what kind of things to look out for - to make the most of your workouts. Resistance Levels One of the most important factors to look at when purchasing an exercise bike is the amount of resistance that it offers. This will determine how challenging the workout will be. Most bikes come with a variety of levels, so you can find one that matches your current fitness level. However, if you plan on using your bike for intense interval training, it's important to make sure that the bike has a wide range of resistance levels to choose from. Console Another important factor to consider is the console. This is the part of the bike where you track your progress and monitor your stats. The console should be easy to use and should offer all the information you need to track your progress. It should also have a timer so you can keep track of your workout duration. Depending on the exercise bike, it’ll have different levels of technology in the console - so it's worth researching the different kinds of applications that are available. Machine Weight Limit The machine weight limit is another important consideration. This will determine how heavy of a person the bike can support. If you're overweight, it's important to make sure that the bike has a high machine weight limit so that it can support your weight - reducing the risk of injury. Brand and Model Before you buy an exercise bike, it's worth doing some research into the brand of machine you're buying. Different brands have different advantages and are recognised for providing specific features; certain brands provide more durability than others, while other brands are better suited to cater to high-intensity workouts. It's also crucial to consider which model you'll purchase. In comparison to older versions, newer models will usually include improved technology, enhanced safety mechanisms, and more advanced feedback consoles. Frame Durability Finally, you'll want to consider the frame durability of the bike before making your purchase. The frame should be made from durable materials that will withstand regular use. If you plan on using your bike frequently, it's worth investing in a model with a more durable frame. Rowing Machine Buying Guide

UK Gym Equipment Ltd..Oct 27, 2026
Rowing machines are one of the best alternatives to conventional forms of cardiovascular training like running or cycling. The movement of a rowing machine workout can improve both aspects of your strength training and cardio training. With more and more people moving away from conventional forms of cardio, into niches of the industry, it's easy to see why rowing machines are increasing in popularity - the benefits are plenty. But before beginning your rowing journey - either as a commercial gym owner, or simply someone looking to buy a rowing machine for home workouts - there's plenty to consider. This guide will provide you with all the information necessary to make an informed purchase when it comes to rowing machines. Rowing machine benefits The rowing machine is one of the pieces of cardio equipment that can help you exercise nearly every muscle group at the same time, giving you a total body workout. All the major muscle groups, including your shoulders, back, arms, legs, glutes and core have to work together. Read on to discover how else rowing machines can improve your fitness plan and help you in meeting your goals: Low Impact Workout Rowing is a low impact exercise, meaning it puts less stress on your joints than running or other high-impact cardio exercises. This is perfect for a number of groups of people including beginners, people with joint pain, and older individuals. High-impact cardio exercises like running, when done consistently over a period of years, can have a detrimental impact on your ability to workout - and ultimately your health. Thankfully, rowing machines allow you to workout out consistently over long periods of time without fear of injury or joint pain. Full Body Workout As previously mentioned, rowing machines provide a full-body workout. This is because the simple act of rowing works nearly every muscle group in your body. This is in contrast to most other cardio equipment which focuses on working either the lower or upper body - not both at the same time. Rowing machines are therefore one of the most efficient ways to workout, as you're able to target multiple muscle groups simultaneously - saving you time in the long-run. Increase in Strength and Muscle Tone In addition to providing a great cardio workout, rowing machines can also help you build strength and muscle tone. This is because as you row, you're constantly resistance training - meaning your muscles are working hard against the resistance of the machine. This can be furthered with most rowing machines as you can increase the amount of resistance that you're working against - testing your muscles to the limits. The result is a number of transferable benefits that can help significantly improve other elements of your fitness plan and your overall day-to-day activities. Increased Endurance Through continuous rowing machine training, you can see a significant increase in your endurance levels. Endurance is key when it comes to many sports and activities, rowing being no exception. As your endurance levels increase, so too will your ability to perform the same task for longer and at a higher intensity. Great for Your Cardiovascular System Rowing is an excellent form of cardio, and one that can be done for long periods of time without putting excessive stress on your body. This ultimately means that you're able to exercise comfortably for longer, while still maintaining a high heart rate - perfect for people who are looking to improve their cardiovascular health and burn a high amount of calories for weight loss. Things to Consider Now that we've discussed how remaining consistent with a proper rowing machine workout plan can benefit your overall fitness, let's take a look at the various factors that you'll need to consider - to ensure that you're buying the perfect rowing machine: Resistance Options One of the most important factors that you'll need to consider when buying a rowing machine is the resistance type. There are three main types of resistance that rowing machines use: air, water, and magnets. Each resistance type has its own unique advantages and disadvantages, which we'll go over below: Air Resistance Rowing Machines The flywheel in an air rowing machine produces resistance as you pull back. The harder and faster you row, the more difficult it will be. Pros: Realistically emulates the experience of rowing on actual water Lightweight The console is more accurate as it monitors the exact drag being given to the flywheel Cons: The only downside is that it produces a lot of noise which isn't ideal for home use, however, it won't have much of an impact in a commercial gym. Water Resistance Rowing Machines Water rowing machines are meant to mimic a boat moving through the water. The resistance is created by the water being dragged through the tank. Pros: Most realistic workout Very quiet The resistance increases the more intensely you row Cons: Water resistance rowing machines are typically more expensive Magnetic Resistance Rowing Machines Magnetic resistance works by moving a magnet closer or further away from a metal flywheel. The closer the flywheel to the magnet, the more resistant it is (you can adjust the settings to alter resistance). Pros: Typically more inexpensive Smoother strokes It's quieter than an air resistance rowing machine Cons: Heavier Some many need to be plugged into an outlet Size and Storage Another important factor to consider is the size of the rowing machine and how easily it will be to store. If you have limited space in your home, then you'll need to opt for a folding or compact rowing machine. However, if you have more space available (for example, in a commercial gym), then you may want to opt for a non-folding model that offers more features and resistance levels. Features and Applications This factor is totally dependent on how you intend to use your rowing machine.  If you're looking for a basic machine to help with your cardio, then you won't need all the bells and whistles that come with more expensive models. Conversely, if you're looking for a machine that offers a wide range of resistance levels and workout programs, then you'll need to be prepared to spend a bit more money. Cross Trainer Buying Guide

UK Gym Equipment Ltd..Oct 27, 2026
Cross trainers are the ultimate piece of cardio equipment - they're the perfect addition to any commercial or home gym. Both beginners and experienced athletes can reap the many benefits that a cross trainer provides. The versatility of modern cross trainers, with the various features and applications that they come with, allow gym goers to reach and exceed their fitness goals - improving their endurance, strength, and cardiovascular system. However, before beginning your search, you have a few things to consider - to ensure that you come out the other end with the perfect cross trainer for your specific goals. In this guide, we'll be diving into all of the different elements of a cross trainer and how they can benefit you, as well as the best cross trainer brands and models available on the market. Read on to find out all the different benefits that come with using a cross trainer in your fitness plan. Cross Trainer Benefits Incorporating a cross trainer in your cardio plan will help you meet your fitness goals in a variety of ways. It will help you lose weight, build muscle, and improve your overall fitness levels. The benefits you'll receive from working out on a cross trainer will only be realised if you remain consistent. Here are a few of the main benefits: Full Body Workouts Cross trainers can help build muscle in your quads, hamstrings, calves, glutes and arms - providing a full body workout. The versatility of a cardio machine sits in the ability to change resistance levels. You can gain muscle mass by increasing the resistance levels, in turn putting your muscles under stress as you're having to put a lot more effort into pushing and pulling. Alternatively, if your goal is to improve your cardio levels or lose weight, you can lower the resistance and train for a longer period of time - burning calories through extended periods of movement. It's Better For Your Joints Using a cross trainer is a lot healthier on your joints than other cardio alternatives such as running. Your feet won't leave the cross trainer pedals which decreases the impact on your knees, ankles, hips and back which reduces the likelihood of sustaining an injury - letting you workout for longer without having to take breaks. Health Benefits Remaining consistent with your cross trainer workouts will have amazing benefits for your overall health. The cardio exercise performed on a cross trainer will help to strengthen your heart, and even just a few sessions a week will improve your general aerobic fitness and increase your lung capacity. You Can Target Areas of Your Body You can modify your workout to focus on specific body parts. If you want to build and tone your arms, for example, relax your leg muscles and allow your arms to pump backward and forward. Some cross trainers, like the Precor EFX 835 Experience Series Cross Trainer, will allow you to manipulate the incline of the machine 13-40° so that you can target common problem areas such as your thighs, glutes and stomach. Now that you're familiar with some of the main benefits that a cross trainer has to offer, let's discuss some of the different considerations for buying the perfect cross trainer for you. What You Need to Consider When you're looking to buy a cross trainer, there are a few different factors you need to take into account. Different cross trainers come with a whole range of various features, so you'll need to think about your fitness goals - and what you'll need to achieve them. Factors such as incline, the kind of console, brand, and stride length will all have to be considered before choosing which cross trainer is right for you. Stride Length Your stride length is the distance between the back of your front foot and the front of your rear foot as you're running. When choosing the perfect cross trainer, it's very important to match the stride length of the machine to your natural stride length. As a general rule, most commercial cross trainers have a stride length between 16"-21". How you are intending to workout dictates what kind of stride length you'll be needing. For example, if you’re using a cross trainer for walking, a shorter stride length will be sufficient. However, if you're intending on upping the speed and intensity, then a longer stride length will be needed. Having the wrong stride length on your cross trainer will result in it feeling uncomfortable and awkward, which isn't ideal. Resistance Levels The resistance levels on a cross trainer play a big part in how effective your workout will be. If you're looking to gain muscle mass, then you'll need a machine with high resistance levels that will put your muscles through their paces. On the other hand, if you're just starting out or want to use the cross trainer for general aerobic fitness, then you can look for machines with lower resistance levels that will let you train for longer periods of time. Console The console on your machine will dictate what kind of feedback and information you receive during your workout. Some consoles are basic and just show time, distance and speed, whereas others offer more complex information such as heart rate readings, calories burned and even music playback capabilities.  The information that you need feedback on will decide what kind of console is best for you. If your main goal is to increase your aerobic fitness, then a basic console which simply displays time and speed is probably adequate. However, if you're looking to burn calories or monitor heart rate as part of an extended workout program, then it's worth investing in a cross trainer with more advanced features and technology. Check the Maximum User Weight Cross trainers vary in the maximum weight they can hold. Always check that your model is able to handle your bodyweight before purchasing, otherwise you’ll risk breaking the machine as well as causing injury to yourself. Brand and Model Before you buy a cross trainer, it's worth doing your research into the brand of machine that you're purchasing. Different brands have different strengths and are known for providing certain features; some brands offer more durability than others, while other brands may be best suited to cater for intense workouts. It's also important to take note of which model you'll be buying. Newer models will usually feature upgraded technology, better safety features and more advanced feedback consoles compared to older models. What are Cross Trainers Good For?

UK Gym Equipment Ltd..Oct 27, 2026
Cross trainers have become a central part of most commercial gyms, and are becoming increasingly popular as the primary piece of cardio equipment in many people's home gyms. In this article, we dive into some of the many benefits that cross-trainers offer and why they’ve become the gym’s best-kept secret. Some of the advantages of a cross-trainer are obvious, considering that any sort of physical exercise is fantastic in a world where sedentarism has become so significant. But certain benefits must be thoroughly investigated so that you can see how a cross-trainer can truly assist your fitness goals. It's Easier on Your Joints If you suffer from bad knees, ankles, or hips, then cross trainers are a great alternative to machines like treadmills. Treadmills are considered a “high-impact” workout, however, cross trainers are impact-free as your feet never leave the pedals that you’re standing on, which makes it excellent for elderly people and others who suffer from joint pain.  As well as that, using a cross trainer means that you're using more muscles at the same time, therefore you will be spreading the load which helps to strengthen bone and muscle density, which are transferable benefits. Get a Full Body Workout Cross trainers, unlike many other pieces of cardio equipment, target the entire body which increases the number of calories burned during a workout. You can actually target specific muscle groups depending on how you choose to use the machine such as: Arms -  Simply grasp the handles and push and pull as you pedal. This works your entire upper body, from the chest to the shoulders. Glutes - You can boost the resistance or add periods of pedalling backwards to target the glutes. Abdominal muscles - Release your grip on the handles and engage your core muscles to remain balanced. After you've released your hands, you must utilise your abdominal muscles instead of your arm muscles. This makes for an excellent core workout. Quads - By pedalling backwards, you can target your quads. If you are comfortable using cross trainers, you can even add squats whilst you pedal. Healthier Heart and Lungs Cross trainers are obviously pieces of cardio equipment, therefore they provide many benefits to your cardiovascular system. The benefits are plentiful, including: increasing lung capacity (letting you workout for longer), making your heart stronger, and lowering your blood pressure. Having a healthier heart means that it will pump blood around your body more efficiently, providing you with better workouts. The benefits to your lungs, such as the aforementioned capacity increase, will also be beneficial if you suffer from asthma or even sleep apnea. So you can see why these pieces of equipment are becoming more universal. Get Creative With Your Workouts The ideal exercise regimens include a range of intensities that are used together to form an effective program. You can mimic a quick walk, a run, or even a difficult stair climb with a cross trainer. Changing the resistance of the machine and the speed at which you move is all it takes to alter the type of workout. You can start by doing something easy and gradually work your way up to higher levels of intensity. Introduce some high-intensity interval training if you're looking to improve your fitness. This entails combining short bursts of intense effort with extended periods of lower effort. Low intensity can be introduced first before gradually increasing the degree of difficulty over time. Get Stronger While resistance training is frequently regarded as the best method to build muscle, using a cross trainer as an additional exercise to enhance general strength is an excellent alternative. Increasing the machine's resistance means that your body has to work harder to achieve the same speed, so increase it if this is one of your training goals. The cross trainer has also been found to be beneficial for people who do a lot of resistance training. This has been found to speed up the recovery process and lead to greater overall strength increases. It's critical to maintain a lower resistance and a low heart rate when using the cross trainer for recovery, as opposed to high-intensity exercises. These are just a few of the many benefits that cross trainers offer. They are extremely versatile pieces of cardio equipment that benefit many of the main muscle groups, allowing you to become more functional in everyday life and in other aspects of your training. We supply a wide range of excellent cross trainers here at UK Gym Equipment, so head on over to our cross trainer page to get started today.

4 Things You Should Consider When Buying Used Gym Equipment

UK Gym Equipment Ltd..Oct 27, 2026
If you are looking to kit out your commercial gym, or you're wanting some exercise equipment to keep fit at home, then investing in used gym equipment is an excellent solution if you have a limited budget. Brand new gym equipment can be costly, but by buying used gym equipment from a reputable seller, you can save money whilst not having to sacrifice on quality. However, before going out and buying used gym equipment, we have compiled a list of things that you'll need to consider: Choose Established Brands Buying from a well-known, reputable brand will guarantee a higher quality product, just like with any other second-hand purchase. Although buying exercise equipment from more popular brands will be more expensive, it will still save you money in the long run as you are less likely to spend money on repairing it or even replacing it. Also, if you can, buy a more recent model because older versions will have out-of-date features that may not be relevant to your fitness training. An older version is also less likely to stand the test of time. There are a number of great brands out there to buy second-hand equipment from. Some brands that make cardio equipment include Cybex, Life Fitness, Star Trac, Xterra, and Precor. However, if you are looking to buy more strength-based equipment, then you should consider the following: Future, Primal Strength, Nuo, and Jordan Fitness. Check the Warranty Warranty is usually not transferable in most cases. You should check to see if the seller offers buyer protection, such as a money-back guarantee with the purchase. If you're buying costly gym equipment second-hand, it's worth speaking to the manufacturer. You can enquire about purchasing an extended warranty plan if you buy high-end second-hand exercise equipment. You can also contact them to learn more about the product and whether they provide any service or support to a second-hand buyer. Buy the Right Equipment for Your Goals Knowing what activities you like or what fitness objectives you want to achieve is critical. This will assist you in determining whether used gym equipment is right for you, as well as which products are necessary to get you where you want to be. Inspect the Equipment It is extremely important to inspect any used gym equipment for damage or excessive wear. This can include testing the item to ensure that it is in perfect working order, as well as checking that its safety mechanisms are operating correctly. Examine the condition of the item to determine whether it has significant wear and tear by considering: Are any plastic or rubber parts of the machine missing or damaged? Is there any rust on the metal parts? Do all of the features work correctly? (e.g. exercise bikes should pedal smoothly) You should check to see whether any parts need to be replaced or cleaned before buying. Also, it's a good idea to check to see whether the goods can still be acquired at a fair price if any components must be changed or cleaned. We suggest checking with official refurbished used gym equipment suppliers, such as ourselves at UK Gym Equipment. We specialise in refurbishing used goods - all of the items we offer are in excellent working order and are from a well-known brand. The Benefits of Buying Used Gym Equipment There are a number of reasons to choose used gym equipment over buying brand new. As previously mentioned, the main benefit is the decrease in price across the board, however, there are other benefits including being able to purchase heavier duty commercial machines at a discounted rate. Great Equipment at a Fraction of the Price Purchasing used exercise bikes, treadmills, steppers, or free-hand weights is far less expensive than buying brand-new equipment. You'll pay a fraction of the price if you buy used equipment. Many trustworthy online health and fitness equipment retailers now resell goods after refurbishing and upgrading them, so it's well worth investing in secondhand gear from a reputable seller. Heavy Duty Equipment Look for details when purchasing home gym equipment online. A lot of the machinery that is resold is commercial fitness equipment. These differ from home exercise machines in that they may be a bit more heavy-duty, to begin with. They'll be larger and sturdier too. Equipment that is sturdier is less likely to break down. The reason why gyms typically throw away equipment isn't that it's broken, but because they must have equipment that meets certain criteria as commercial establishments. As you can see, buying second-hand exercise equipment is a no-brainer. Head on over to our used or refurbished equipment pages to start kitting out your gym today.

Kettlebell Workout Benefits

UK Gym Equipment Ltd..Oct 27, 2026
Nowadays, everyone is using kettlebells; from bodybuilders to crossfitters, and even those of us who are just wanting to get into shape. It's clear that kettlebell workouts have become incredibly popular across the fitness industry for their intensity and functional fitness benefits. In this blog, we'll guide you through the world of kettlebell workouts and their many benefits. How to Use Kettlebells The great thing about kettlebells is that they can be used in so many different ways. You can use them for swings, Turkish Get-ups, cleans, snatches, and more! KettleBell Swings One of the most widely beneficial kettlebell workouts is the kettlebell swing. This excellent exercise targets the abs, shoulders, pecs, glutes, hips, hamstrings, and lats with a very simple motion. The kettlebell swing can also have great benefits for your grip strength which is a transferable benefit to any exercise. To perform a proper kettlebell swing, which has its own place in any effective workout plan, you should check out this video on the do's and don'ts of the exercise:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSESeQAir2M What are the Benefits of Kettlebell Training? Based on research, personal experience, and opinions from the fitness community, here are a few of the many benefits of kettlebells and kettlebell training. Improves Core Strength and Stability There are multiple reasons as to why kettlebell training is beneficial for core strength and stability. Firstly, quite a few of the kettlebell exercises are forms of ballistic training, which works on developing explosive power through maximising acceleration. The explosive movements of kettlebell training require intense core contractions which stimulates the abdominal muscles. Secondly, through kettlebell training, you will develop well-rounded core strength as you will be exercising your core from all directions. Thirdly, many of the kettlebell exercises are unilateral as you will only be utilising one kettlebell at a time, which is excellent for the stability of your core. All of these reasons, and many more, are why athletes have incorporated kettlebell training into their workout plans as it provides them with the core strength to explode past or through their opponents. Enhances Coordination Kettlebell movements are highly dynamic. You'll be swinging them all over the place - above you, to your side, between your legs, and side to side - so it's important that you remain attentive throughout the process. This attention and mental concentration will improve your proprioception (coordination; a sense of movement of the body and its parts). It's critical to cultivate your sense of movement. This skill will be reflected in your fitness and in your everyday life, and it's undoubtedly an essential component of athletic performance. Fat Burning Workouts Kettlebells allow for some serious calorie-burning exercises, which of course means: weight loss. Studies have shown that kettlebell swings can burn up to 20 calories per minute. That means that if you were performing kettlebell swings for 20 minutes, you would need to run for 20 minutes at a 6-minute per mile pace to burn the same amount of calories. Alternative to Running-Based Cardio Remember, a kettlebell is a complete-body conditioning tool as well, and it may be used for cardio training. Because of the adaptability of kettlebells, you can execute a powerful cardio session with just one. If you're trying to burn calories in a hurry but don't want to use weights or go to the gym, try doing a lightweight kettlebell high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or metabolic workout (low weight, high rep, high-intensity workouts). Many people believe it is more efficient than constant-state cardio in burning fat, increasing metabolism, muscular endurance, and improving cardiovascular health. The key is to keep a high heart rate throughout the exercise. If you're not sold on kettlebell training after reading this blog, then we're all out of ideas. The incredible versatility that kettlebells offer provides you with an endless amount of workouts that range from strength training to endurance and cardio-based exercises. It's now up to you to go out and discover which kettlebell workouts are going to become part of your training plan.

Treadmill Buying Guide

UK Gym Equipment Ltd..Oct 27, 2026
Treadmill Buying Guide Treadmills are one of the staples of any commercial or home gym, and they're a great investment for reaching your health and fitness goals. However, with so many different treadmills on the market; it's hard to know which one is right for you. With factors to consider such as horsepower, speed, and incline, choosing the right treadmill can be difficult. But don't worry. Our treadmill buying guide will help you along in your journey to finding the perfect piece of cardio equipment. Consider the Intended Use of the Treadmill Ultimately, everyone will have a unique idea of what they want to use their treadmill for. If you are a gym owner, you may need to consider a more universal piece of equipment that can cater to a variety of people. But if you are buying a treadmill for your home gym, you'll have a more specific idea in mind. For example, if you are new to cardio, if you are an older person, or have a health condition that makes exercising more difficult, you should consider investing in a lower-powered walking treadmill that allows you to walk at a slower pace. On the other hand, if you are a more experienced runner, perhaps training for a half or even full marathon, then you will need to consider treadmills with a more powerful motor and more durable belt. How Much Space Do You Have? If you are a commercial gym owner, you will have more space than someone looking to kit out their home gym, however, you will still want to make the most out of the space that you have. Measuring your space before deciding which treadmill is right for you could be the difference between fitting six treadmills in your gym, to seven or eight. If space is a concern for you when choosing a treadmill for your home gym then a folding treadmill is a great option. It will still take up room when vertically folded though, so keep that in mind. They're fantastic if you have a smaller workout area or if you just want to make the most of your space while it's not being used. Also, it's a lot easier to clean around and beneath a foldable treadmill. However, this must be caveated by mentioning that non-folding treadmills are a lot more stable, have more powerful motors, and often offer better performance and quality. Technical Specs Finding the right treadmill requires research into some of the more technical aspects of the machinery, including: Horsepower The power produced by the motor is often related to the treadmill's quality and has a direct influence on how your workout feels. Walkers and joggers should aim for at least 1.5 to 2 HP, but if you intend to use the treadmill frequently for running, a treadmill with a HP of 2.0 to 3.0 might be preferable. Also, if you are heavier in weight, you may require a stronger motor. Speed The speed of your treadmill is determined by the kind of performance you want to achieve. The most basic treadmills can reach a maximum speed of 12mph, however, there are models that can reach up to 15mph and even 20mph. If you're serious about running and pushing yourself, you'll need a treadmill that can cater to your fitness goals. A high-end model will allow for speeds of up to 22mph. Size Treadmills aren’t small pieces of equipment and the size of the machine is one of the biggest things to consider when researching the perfect machine for you. Whilst the lightest home use treadmills might only take up around 120cm x 60cm of floor space when in use, better quality and commercial grade treadmills can be up to 210cm x 90cm. It’s also worth remembering that you need a clear space behind the running area to access the machine and for your own safety. Whilst small, home-use treadmills can save you some space, there is a trade-off in other areas. The build quality is often quite light which reduces the life expectancy of these machines, the running area can be small and problematic for taller users, top speeds are often quite low, and the max user weight is also reduced.  A popular compromise is opting for a treadmill that folds away after use. This means that, while an area of the room will have to be able to accommodate the treadmill while it is in use, once the user is finished it can be folded up and stored away. Therefore, the area where the treadmill was in use can be utilised for other needs. Of course, this may mean constantly having to clear away space before unfolding the treadmill prior to use, which may become an annoyance for the user, potentially causing a lack of motivation. Larger and better-quality treadmills will need more space and are a lot heavier to move around, but will be suitable for a much wider range of uses. The top speeds can be as high at 15mph/24kpm, the build quality means users up to 200kg/440lbs are often catered for, and the running area is designed for even the tallest runners. Commercial quality treadmills are suitable for all intended uses, from light duty walking right through to professional training. Some of the smallest treadmills on the market will only be suitable for light walking by relatively light users, so make sure you check the specification carefully. Incline A treadmill with an incline can add variety to your workouts. It can also raise the intensity of your exercise while reducing the impact on your joints. Choose a treadmill with a 10% or higher incline if this sounds like something you will need to achieve your goals. Belt Size For individuals who are 5'7" or shorter, we suggest a minimum belt length of 48" for walking and 50" for running. If you're taller than 5'7", you'll need a longer track to accommodate your stride: ideally, a minimum belt track of 50" for walking and 56" for running. A longer track is required if you are over 6'5": ideally, one that is 52" long for walking and 60" for running. Weight Requirements The maximum weight requirements for a treadmill are particularly important if you are a heavier individual, and they can also provide an indication of the durability of the machine. When selecting a treadmill you should weigh less than the stated maximum weight requirement, which is particularly significant for runners. Build Quality and Belt Durability Belt durability is often overlooked when making a treadmill purchasing decision, but it’s a vital aspect of making sure your treadmill is right for you. Thickness plays a large part in running belt durability and, as such, you’ll often find suppliers boast about two and four-ply belts. If there is no mention of belt thickness in the specifications, then there’s a chance the supplier is omitting this information because it’s only one-ply. One-ply belts are much thinner and a lot less durable, so the life-expectancy is considerably shortened. If you’re making the decision to purchase a treadmill then you’ll want it to last well into the future, therefore you should avoid treadmills with poor quality, one-ply belts. All the larger commercial grade treadmills from the likes of Life Fitness, Technogym, Precor, Matrix, and Star Trac will feature hard-wearing, commercial standard, two-ply belts as a minimum. Belt thickness is not the only thing that determines durability, another feature is lubrication. For optimum performance and durability, treadmills should be lubricated. This can be down to the owner, but many treadmill belts are infused with lubricants such as silicon, making them ‘maintenance-free’. The final variable that determines a belt’s durability is the roller diameter. The belt is propelled by metal rollers and rollers with a larger diameter put less stress on the belt than their smaller counterparts. Some of the cheapest treadmills on the market will feature rollers as small as 5cm in diameter; these put a lot of strain on what tends to be a poor-quality belt and should be avoided. Some of the best quality treadmills in the market will have rollers with a 15cm diameter and premium quality bearings, which are designed to last for thousands of miles of usage. Features and Applications Depending on your budget and how tech-focused you intend your workouts on being, you will also need to take into consideration all of the different features and applications that modern treadmills come with, including: Heart Rate Monitor Exercising in a specific heart rate zone is shown to enhance fitness. Zoned exercises help you stay focused on your home workouts, from weight reduction goals to increasing endurance. The majority of treadmills will have grip sensors (such as the PRECOR Refurbished TRM 885 Treadmill) that give you a simple heart rate reading that will be shown on the machine. Heart rate control is also available, whereby holding the sensors or wearing a wireless chest strap, the intensity of your workout can be regulated depending on your heart rate. This allows you to keep your session inside a preset range of intensity. Console Controls Look for well-labelled, easy-to-use controls: up/down buttons, quick one-touch speed and incline buttons, as well as big, legible displays that show a variety of functions (time, speed, heart rate, and incline) at once. Treadmills such as the CYBEX Refurbished 770T Treadmill w/ E3 Touch Console are also available, that are built with touch screen controls that make navigating your settings incredibly easy. Preset Workouts These are pre-programmed into the treadmill and provide you with a predetermined incline/intensity workout, with the machine automatically adjusting the intensity of your workout based on changes in speed or incline. Manual adjustments can always be made to guarantee that you are training safely. Treadmills such as the SPIRIT FITNESS CT900ENT Commercial Treadmill allow for a more immersive workout, allowing the user to explore multiple preset workouts, There are a variety of different types of exercises that you can do on your own equipment. Competing against yourself to see who can cover the most distance or finish the job quicker is a fantastic method to keep you motivated to exercise. Look for a treadmill with an abundance of programs or one that may be linked to a training software with an infinite number of possibilities! Used/Refurbished Considerations Buying a treadmill for your commercial or home gym does not need to be an expensive endeavour. A great alternative to buying brand new gym equipment is to invest in new or refurbished machines which means that you get good quality equipment, for a fraction of the price. You will however need to consider a couple of things when buying used or refurbished equipment: Motor Condition You need to pay special attention to the condition of the motor, especially if it is an older model treadmill. A great way to check the condition is to give it a test run and see if it operates smoothly. Previous Use Knowing how the treadmill was previously used will give you a great idea of how much longer the treadmill will last. Discovering the amount of use the treadmill has had is very important. Buying used or refurbished gym equipment from private sellers can be risky at times. However, buying commercial gym equipment from companies like ourselves here at UK Gym Equipment provides you with a guarantee that you are buying quality equipment. We offer a warranty on all of our products and will even offer you money for your old and unwanted gym equipment because customer satisfaction is our primary belief.

Why You Should Consider Refurbished Gym Equipment

UK Gym Equipment Ltd..Oct 27, 2026
We will be clear about this – there is absolutely nothing wrong with buying refurbished gym equipment. Some may turn their nose up at the mere thought of second-hand equipment, but our team at UK Gym Equipment ensures all products that leave our facility meet the highest standards possible. Any equipment that comes to us will undergo repair and maintenance work as standard, replacing old parts that have seen better days in favour of new pieces to extend its lifespan. For example, when we receive a second-hand treadmill, our engineering team replace the roller front and drive belt, as well as refurbishing the motor which will be fitted with new bearings. You can read more about our refurbishment process here. When it comes to kitting out your fitness space with the biggest named brands on the market, sometimes the latest equipment new out of the box is a little outside your budget. This is why many customers ask about our refurbished range, where they can find commercial-standard cardio and strength-training machines at lower prices, but offering all the same quality. What are the Advantages of Buying Second-Hand Gym Equipment? We have already touched on it, but the cost-effective nature of buying refurbished gym equipment is naturally a key selling point. Rather than paying top price for a new treadmill, rowing machine or exercise bike, you can pay a considerably smaller sum for a piece of equipment that is every bit as good as something brand new. When a machine has been through our engineering team, it is not only reconditioned, it is also thoroughly tested to ensure that it meets the standards expected of us, and our customers. This means that you don’t have to worry about your equipment breaking as soon as you install it – and if you do happen to have any issues, you will have our three-month warranty (extendable to 12 months) to fall back on. Second-hand gym equipment comes to us for all manner of reasons, not just because it is broken and its original owner cannot afford to fix it. We receive items because the owner no longer has any need for it and it has stood idle for months or years, because of a need to make space, or simply because the owner has invested in something new. In many ways, it’s the same as buying a second-hand car – only that we offer the security of ensuring your purchase is a risk-free one. Buy Now Pay Later Our finance options are not exclusive to brand new products listed on our site, with many of our refurbished models only qualifying for finance purchases. This means that if you find a refurbished piece of gym equipment that matches everything that you are looking for, but is still a little bit over your budget, you can conveniently manage your payments. You can choose to split your payments over six, nine, 12, 24, 36, and 48 months, with some options coming with 0% interest. This allows almost anyone the luxury of affording commercial-standard equipment from the top names on the market. Whether you are kitting out your own personal gym or commercial space, this will no doubt provide added value to whoever makes use of the equipment. We understand that paying, in some cases, four or five figures for one piece of equipment is a lot to ask – even for those in a comfortable position. This is why we are proud to offer finance options for our products, as we believe that top of the range fitness equipment should be something for everyone to enjoy. View Our Range of Refurbished Gym Equipment Today Please take the opportunity to browse through our range of refurbished gym equipment today on our website. Kitting Out Your Home Gym on a Budget

UK Gym Equipment Ltd..Oct 27, 2026
A home gym is an aspiration for many fitness fanatics who dream of being able to workout in the comfort of their home, rather than commuting backwards and forward to the gym. Not only does it mean having access to your own range of equipment, but each piece has been bought for no one else’s benefit but your own. Achieving this pipedream can come at an expense, though, which is why commercial gyms are as successful as they are by offering members access to top of the range equipment for one monthly fee. Kitting out your very own home gym may not be as costly as you initially think, however, as with a little bit of frugality and clever thinking, you may just be surprised at how affordable the project could be. Buy Second-Hand/Refurbished Gym Equipment This is undoubtedly the best way of investing in commercial-standard gym equipment without paying the prices associated with them. New, out of the box equipment such as treadmills, exercise bikes and weights can come with price tags upwards of four figures. If you are keeping to a modest budget, that may not quite fit within your finances. The good news is that second-hand cross-trainers, used exercise bikes and refurbished treadmills can all be purchased at heavily discounted rates. UK Gym Equipment specialises in the refurbishment of second-hand equipment, ensuring that all pieces listed on our website meet our high standards before going out to our customers. For example, if you purchase a reconditioned rowing machine, our in-house engineering team will fit a new flywheel shaft, clutch bearings, chain, footplates and straps as standard. Our team will also assess the seat rollers and bungee cord for wear and tear, and replace them where necessary. We do all this so you can rest assured you are getting value for money. Space This is a key area to consider because you can get all the equipment in the world, but it is pointless if you haven’t got the space to house it. Carefully consider the space you have, how much you can reasonably dedicate to your gym area, and the size and quantity of the pieces you are looking to invest in. You will need to think about the types of workouts you are most interested in and the equipment that will demand (more on this in a little while). The best home gyms allow for the user to mix up their workouts by offering enough space to transition between exercises. Also, you should make sure to allow for enough space without fear of injuring yourself by banging into any equipment. Ideally, you should be able to stretch your arms out wide without touching anything else. If there is likely to be more than one person utilising the area at once, this should also be considered as part of the planning process. Another thing to consider is whether your home gym will be your primary fitness area, or whether you are planning to make use of a gym membership and/or exercising outside. If your home gym is designed to provide a complementary fitness area where you can workout if going out isn’t an option for whatever reason, then it will be worth dedicating a larger area to it, compared to a casual home gym that might only need a smaller amount of space. Versatile Equipment As we briefly touched upon earlier, you need to consider the type of equipment you are investing in. To not waste space in your home gym area, as well as not to needlessly eat into your budget, buying versatile equipment that can be used as part of numerous regimes is certainly the way to go. We are talking about weights that can be used, such as dumbbells, medicine balls, barbells, and strength-training machines with multiple functions. Pieces that can be used in multiple ways are a fantastic addition to any gym area as they reduce the need for storage space and a bigger budget. Cardio machines also fall into this category but in a slightly different way. Where a set of dumbbells can be used to perform a multitude of exercises, cardio machines such as treadmills can be used for HIIT training, as well as endurance training. Your fitness goals will have a huge bearing on the type of equipment you invest in. Flooring This may be an afterthought, or not even a thought at all, but the flooring in your gym area is important. Considering the type of equipment that may be used, you could be asking for trouble as your floor could become damaged quite quickly.  At UK Gym Equipment, we provide rubber gym flooring suitable for housing gym equipment without the risk of indentation or worse. If you do not want to lay down rubber flooring throughout the entirety of your home gym area, sports mats are also available that can be used as and when required. Either way, this will safeguard your flooring, avoiding potentially expensive repair works in the future. Buy From UK Gym Equipment Today Everything that has been mentioned above is available through UK Gym Equipment, and you can speak to our team of experts today to discuss your needs. It takes time and a real dedication to commit to bodybuilding because results do not come quickly and almost every aspect of your life must be dedicated to achieving your goal. Not only does your workout regimen have to centralise around building muscle, but so does your nutrition, sleeping patterns and more. Most bodybuilders will take in at least 4,000 calories per day, as this is the fuel that the body requires to build muscles and achieve desired goals. This means that the training bodybuilders undertake must be able to convert all that excess energy into muscle before it turns to fat. That requires dedication and workouts that work muscles throughout the body. If you are a novice in the world of bodybuilding and you don’t have an experienced hand to turn to, likely, you won’t be maximising your input and output. That’s where UK Gym Equipment come in – with our knowledge, and range of Future Gym Equipment, that means that anyone can sculpt their body into one of a mythological god. Deadlift The deadlift is an essential piece in any bodybuilder’s arsenal because it works so many muscles. This one exercise trains hamstrings, glutes, back, hips, core, and trapezius. That’s a lot of muscle groups worked in just one movement, making this an essential part of your workout plan. Using a studio barbell set, such as this, simply begin with the equipment flat on the floor in front of you and squat to grip the bar. You can use a variety of different grips, such as overhand and underhand. With a strong grip, move your body into an upright position, keeping hold of the barbell with your hands, lifting to your thigh – keep your chest up and pull the shoulders back as you complete a rep. This exercise must be performed with perfect technique to avoid a potentially serious injury in the back. Single-Leg Press In previous workout posts, we have discussed the benefits of incorporating the leg press into your workout. When the goal is bodybuilding, though, switching it up to a single-leg press is a great means of working your quadriceps. This is because, while you may favour your dominant leg – consciously or not – when performing the traditional double leg press, a single-leg press forces you to use the leg without spreading the workload. The single-leg press ensures that muscles in the lower body are built symmetrically. If you attempt the single-leg press having previously only performed the standard, you will likely find your dominant side can push more weight than your unfavoured side. You will soon notice the difference after a few weeks of using the single-leg press and will undoubtedly reap the benefits when performing the traditional leg press. Block Clean The block clean utilises a stacked barbell and blocks, upon which the barbell sits before the beginning of the exercise. This should be executed similarly to the standard clean, only with the weight sitting on blocks, either at or just below knee level, rather than on the floor. This exercise is fantastic because it forces the person performing the rep to accelerate the bar up more rapidly than the standard clean because of the shorter distance. The block clean also does not demand as much from the back and legs, so if you are suffering from an injury and/or fatigue, this could be a good gym bodybuilding tip to take on. Dumbbell Bench Press If you are serious about bodybuilding then you will be interested to know what is considered to be the best bodybuilding exercise for the chest you can do at the gym or home. We believe that to be the dumbbell bench press which is a fantastic exercise for multiple reasons. One, because it works both the chest and shoulders equally, with each dumbbell individually weighted so as the person performing the exercise cannot spread the load unevenly, and two, because the equipment can easily be stored at home. All that is required is a set of dumbbells and a weight bench (if you don’t have access to a weight bench, you can improvise with another piece of furniture). Performing sets of the dumbbell bench press will work to build muscle in the chest, giving you the pop that you want to achieve. Nutrition Nutrition is every bit as important as your bodybuilding gym workout. Your body needs the correct fuel. As we have already mentioned, bodybuilders commonly take in around 4,000 calories – but that’s not made up of fatty fries, greasy burgers and carb-heavy pizzas. Protein is the order of the day, with weightlifters eating plenty of meat such as chicken and steak, yoghurt and grains.  There are two main phases to bodybuilding – bulking and cutting. Bulking is the fun part of building muscle as it is recommended to increase your calorie intake by 15%, which means taking in more nutrition (not eating junk food). The bulking phase is to help the body build muscle, so the extra calories will be converted to muscle through extensive workouts.  Cutting is where many bodybuilders struggle. Rather than adding 15% onto your calorie intake, those cutting will intake 15% fewer calories than their usual maintenance amount. The objective of cutting is to strip fat away, leaving a defined appearance as the body fat percentage decreases. During cutting, bodybuilders will incorporate low-intensity cardio into the workout regimen – this is because high-intensity cardio burns fat quickly and, with that, muscle which goes against the point of bodybuilding.
