Speciality Olympic Bars for Commercial and Home Gyms
A straight barbell does a lot, but speciality bars open up exercises that are awkward, uncomfortable or simply less effective with a standard bar. From trap bars that make deadlifting more accessible, to safety squat bars that take pressure off the shoulders, they give your members more ways to train and give you more value from your free weights area.
At UK Gym Equipment, we supply commercial-grade speciality bars from leading brands, including our own Future range, to suit a variety of budgets and training styles. Whether you’re fitting out a new facility, adding variety to an existing strength area or building a well-equipped home gym, you’ll find options to suit your needs.
Types of Speciality Olympic Bars
Trap (hex) bars: The lifter stands inside the frame, which shifts load away from the lower back and makes deadlifts and shrugs more comfortable. A great choice for beginners and athletes alike.
Safety squat bars: Padded shoulder supports and forward handles reduce stress on the shoulders, wrists and upper back, making squats more comfortable for lifters with limited mobility.
Swiss or multi-grip bars: Parallel and angled grip positions allow neutral-grip pressing and rows, which is often kinder on the shoulders and elbows.
Cambered bars: The curved shape increases the range of motion on squats and presses, adding a tougher challenge.
Axle bars: A thick, fixed-sleeve bar that builds grip strength and is popular for strongman-style training.
Choosing the Right Speciality Bar
Think about the movements you want to support and who will be using the bar. Check the weight of the bar, the maximum loading capacity and the handle design, as these vary widely between bar types. Make sure your racks and storage can accommodate unusually shaped bars, as some need extra space or dedicated storage. For commercial gyms, durable finishes and strong welds are especially important, as speciality bars often take significant loads.
Pair Your Bar With the Right Plates
Speciality bars are only as useful as the weights you load onto them. Browse our Olympic plate weights to find the right plates, or see our Olympic plates (full sets) to load several bars at once. For standard lifts, take a look at our Olympic bars, including 7ft Olympic bars, 6ft Olympic bars and EZ curl Olympic bars.
