Olympic Barbells

Olympic bars are made to handle much heavier weight loads, and even with increasingly heavy weights being added, they are made to flex under the load then return to a straight position. Incorporating Olympic lifts into your training routine can help you improve strength, muscle mass and power. Given a little practice, the Olympic lift can help you increase your technique for squats and deadlifts, as well as leading to better coordination and flexibility, helping to improve your overall weightlifting performance.

Olympic bars are made with revolving ends, also referred to as ‘sleeves’, to help alleviate the torque on the bar. This is relevant for fast, explosive movements such as the snatch or power clean where the bar is required to rotate quickly. These products are made to be used with other Olympic specific equipment as due to the diameter of the bar, they can only be used with specialised plate weights.

When choosing your Olympic barbell, you should consider the weight capacity, especially if you/your gym specialises in competition training. The length of the bar, typically around 7ft, will depend on the height of the individual as well as their strength. A thicker diameter usually means that it is capable of handling bigger and heavier weights that are expected.

Commercial Olympic Barbell Sets

We understand that Olympic barbells are not one size fits all. Our Olympic barbell sets include different sized barbells - catering for people of different heights and experience levels. Typically speaking, smaller Olympic barbells are capable of lifting a smaller amount than that of a longer and more durable Olympic barbell. So, the difference in size between your barbells should be proportionate to your experience level.

If you're a beginner, or if you're a commercial gym owner with beginners working out in your gym, we recommend that you use an Olympic barbell set which includes multiple different sized barbells. This will allow for growth and gives you time to adapt to lifting with an Olympic barbell before upgrading.
